DAVID CROWLEY FOR
CONGRESS
CAMPAIGN NEWS ARCHIVE
January - July of 2008
1/2/2008 - David C. Crowley, II
files his intent to run as the Republican
Candidate for the U. S. House of Representatives seat in the California
33rd Congressional District.
1/7/2008
- The campaign's Statement of Organisation is mailed for
filing
with the FEC. Version 1.0 of the campaign's website goes up. Expected
improvements to come during the coming month include a web-based
donation system and an image gallery of the Candidate and his family.
1/10/2008 - Some small
maintenance designed to help bring this site into
compliance with FEC regulations concerning donations to
campaigns.
1/12/2008 -
The campaign bought a banner ad placement at
Politics1.com
today. This is our first ad and will be located on their California
offices
page soon. Also, as you've already seen, the front page has been amended
to include, in part, an additional paragraph asking for funds for this
website.
1/13/2008 - Some more maintenance
to make the pages easier to read.
Also, we received our first mailed-in contributions today. Slightly less
than
$4870 remain until we hit the FEC's minimum amount for a "true" candidate
in terms of receipts and disbursements. May that day come soon!
2/1/2008 - Well, it's
been a roller coaster ride for the Republican Party the
last few weeks. Almost all of the candidates (including my personal
favorite,
Fred Thompson) have left the field. Will "Super-Duper Tuesday" put the end
to Huckabee and Paul or will their campaigns be
revitalized?
My campaign continues to go forward. I filed with the Los Angeles
County
Clerk on January 16, picking up my SIL forms (signature in lieu of filing
fee)
at the same time. This is an important step as I now have to collect 3000
signatures to avoid having to pay the $1652.00 filing fee required of all
congressional candidates. I've also picked up a copy of the congressional
district's voter list, so I'll soon be seeing you over the next 3 weekends
(weather permitting) to help me get on the primary ballot for June 3, 2008.
After the SIL forms are turned in, I then have to use a nominating petition
and gain 30-40 signatures as the final step to the primary. Later this month
I hope to also be attending the State Party Convention, but more on that
later.
2/25/2008 - It's been the better
part of a month and a half since I last
updated these pages and a lot has been happening. The above update
was postponed when I started precinct walking to gain signatures for the
SIL forms. Due to the rainy season here in California at the time, I was
unable to actually start getting signatures until February and did not get
as many as I could wish to receive. The SILs were filed on the last
possible
day, Feb. 21, 2008 and were verified by the following evening. I had 52
verified signatures out of a total of 62 signatures gathered.
In other news, I attended the California Republican Party's Spring State
Convention. I had a fun time, meeting up with some of the people running
workshops - some of whom I invited to take part in the Candidate Forums
that will be occuring starting next month and continuing each month until
the June 3 Primary. Details on this will follow soon, so come back often!
At this time, I would like to thank everyone who accepted one of my
business cards (and I received a lot in return!), especially the ladies of
Adiva
Tech who had this real great programmable button for sale. I also want to
say hi to the lovely ladies from SFSU who helped to brighten up my second
and last day at the con; also the many other Young Republicans and College
Republicans who I met in the course of the 2 days I spent there; the CFRW
ladies with whom I spoke over the course of my two days there and so many
people than I have space or time here to write about. Thank you to all!
The final note for now is that we finally have a way for you to make online
donations! We have an account with PayPal and can accept any form of
credit, debit or bank account that they do. Remember, you MUST be an
American Citizen or Permanent Resident to be able to donate.
March of 2008
3/20/2008 - It's been almost
a month since the last update -
Don't read anything into this other than I've been too busy to do the updates
and I have yet to get a webmaster to handle the site.
We filed our nominating petition on 3/6/2008, the next to last day
to do so.
Special thanks go to Shawn Steel, newly-elected National Committeeman,
for his valuable last-minute donation of $400 which helped us to reach the
amount of funding needed to pay our filing fee to the state.
I do have some important news. We have enough
funds now to allow us
to add pages to the website! Over the next week or so, I will be adding
an image gallery, a bio page, an issues page and an events page. This last
is probably the most important since the campaign now has
events!
Our first five events are scheduled over the course
of the next 4 weeks:
3/28/2008 - A Republican Candidates Forum is being held at the U.S.
Bank
community room from 6:30-9:00 pm. The address is 5760 Crenshaw Blvd,
at the corner of Crenshaw and Slauson. Other candidates scheduled for this
event are Lady Cage-Barile (running for the 47th Assembly seat) and
Homeless Activist Ted Hayes (running for the 35th Congressional seat). For
more information, click here (links to flyer for
event).
3/30/2008 - A rally to support Veterans will take place at the corner
of
Federal Avenue, San Vicente Blvd and Wilshire Blvd. This rally is to
protest the Henry Waxman landgrab of land deeded to disabled veterans
in perpetuity! Rep. Waxman wants to take the land and use it as
a public park for the people of Brentwood instead. As a veteran myself, I
can't let this go gently into the night. If elected, this will be one of
the first
things that I will take action against.
4/8/2008 - A special meeting of the 47th Assembly Republican
Central
Committee will take place at the Westside Pavilion. The meeting will start
at 7 pm, so get there early to meet people from across Los Angeles County.
4/9/2008 - The Santa Monica chapter of the California Federation of
Republican Women will meet at Billingsley's Restaurant on Pico Blvd. This
is their normal monthly meeting to which I have been invited as a
candidate.
This starts at around 11:30 am and runs until around 1 pm.
4/18/2008 - A second Candidates Forum at the same place and time as
the
first forum. This will most likely be the last forum before the June
Primary,
though there is a possibility of a third one in May at a different
location.
3/22/2008 - Today is a very important day.
The campaign has picked up
its first endorsement! The California Republican Assembly gave me its
blessing during their endorsing convention today. This endorsement
will be seen in the near future on all of our campaign literature.
The new pages for the website will be put up over the next few days. If
a link doesn't lead anywhere, please be patient. It just means that we are
in
the process of testing the link to each new page as we put it up. The first
page that will be going up will be the campaign's issues page, an item
that we've been waiting for some time to put up on this site. The index
page
has already been changed to reflect our new upcoming pages.
4/11/2008 - The campaign has
now picked up its second endorsement. Last
night we received an endorsement from the Republican Party of Los
Angeles County during that body's monthly meeting. Who will endorse
our campaign by this time next month?
We are also still working on our image gallery.
4/15/2008 - Today the campaign filed its first
quarterly report with the
Federal Elections Commission for the amount of funds we raised and
disbursed over the period of January 1 - March 31 of 2008. The
campaign's receipts totalled $3589.49 and our expenditures were
$3017.93, leaving us with cash on hand of $517.51. This meant that
we still had $1410.51 still remaining to hit the FEC's "candidate"
level.
Monies received in the early to middle part of April have changed this
amount to $1120.51. We're almost at the FEC's magic mark!
Thanks to all who have invested in our campaign. We will be adding
a support page to thank everyone after the June 3rd Primary.
5/25/2008 - Yeah, I know
it's been a month since we last updated.
There hasn't been much to update since then, so the site sort of
languished. Because of the various loan and mortgage crises, there
has been a distinct lack of funds coming through as well - I think
the presidential campaigns are the only ones pulling in money.
We had a mad spate of activity this past week though. From the
16th to the 19th of May, we prepared the Pre-Election reports
required by law for the FEC and the IRS, mailing them out on the 19th.
Tuesday, May 20, we attended a Public Policy symposium put on by
The Heritage Foundation. It was extremely informative for me and will
lead to some interesting legislation when I win election and oust our
current "Do Nothing" representative in Washington.
Thursday, May 22, I attended the Los Angeles Citizenship Ceremony at the
downtown convention center. Over 18,000 new citizens were created that
day. I helped out the Republican Party by getting some of those newly
minted citizens registered to vote.
Friday and Saturday were spent at two different election forums put on by
ElectionForum.org. More about
this on the endorsements page.
CALENDAR
4/13/2008 - Rally at the corner of Federal,
San Vicente and Wilshire to
protest the landgrab by Senator Feinstein, Congressman Waxman and
Assemblyperson Sue Young. They are trying to take land deeded to
Veterans in perpetuity and use it as a public park. Co-conspirators in this
act of theft are the Brentwood City Council and a private entity that calls
itself the Veterans Park Conservancy. Both believe that they have some
right to take land that isn't under their purview and use it for their own
dubious needs. There were reportedly (I have only heard this second- or
thirdhand) secret negotiations, kept out of the public eye. Among these
"negotiations" was a deal that makes this park for Brentwood rentfree for
a
30-year period. Once again, our Veterans (and I am a Vet as well), are
getting shafted by Democrats who see no value in the sacrfices we make.
4/15/2008 - Not really an event, but this is
the due date to file FEC Form 3
for a federal campaign's financial activity for the 1st quarter of 2008.
4/16/2008 - Rally in Downtown Los Angeles at
City Hall. This concerns
a loophole in recently passed voter legislation, Proposition R, approving
new
Los Angeles City Council's term limits and (trying to) limit Lobbyist
influence at City Hall. The point of this is that Lobbyist influence could
continue unabated because they can still hold fundraisers for Council-
members and others who depend upon election to locally held offices.
Help fight undue influence!
4/20/2008 - Rally at the corner of Federal,

5/30/2008 - The last candidate forum before
the primary will be held.
Like the others, it will be held at the Community Building of the
U.S. Bank at the corner of Crenshaw and Slauson. It will run from
6:30 PM to 8: 30 PM. There is free parking and free refreshments.
David Crowley (33rd Congressional District), Ted Hayes (35th
Congressional District) and Lady Cage-Barille (47th Assembly District)
will answer whatever questions you have.
6/1/2008 - Rally at the corner of Federal, San
Vicente and Wilshire to
protest the landgrab by Senator Feinstein, Congressman Waxman and
Assemblyperson Sue Young. They are trying to take land deeded to

6/3/2008 - Primary Election day - Get Out And
Vote!! There will be a small
election day party held at the campaign headquarters starting as soon as
the polls close. Everyone is invited to come by and see the candidate.
The address is 1270 3rd Avenue, Los Angeles. This is near Pico blvd.
and Arlington Ave. We will be open to all until 11 PM as the next day is
a
school day and the candidate has to be up at 5 to get his son ready for it.
7/15/2008 - Not really an event, but this is
the due date to file FEC Form 3
for a federal campaign's financial activity for the 2nd quarter of
2008.
