DAVID CROWLEY FOR
CONGRESS
THE ISSUES
On this page, you will find an outline of
some of my personal political viewpoints.
Abortion
The Pro-Choice group just doesn't get it. You make
a choice
to have sex or not. You then make a choice to make use of
protection or not. If you make the choice not to use protection,
then you are making the choice to (possibly) have a baby. Since you,
as a couple, have made that choice, I just can't see how you then have
any type of right or privilege to have a baby aborted on demand.
That said, I also believe that there are times and circumstances where
there is a legitimate reason for abortion. All three of these reasons
do revolve around choice, but not in the way that Pro-Choice really
thinks of it.
The first reason is due to rape. I feel this way because it is giving
choice
back to a woman who has basically had choice taken away from her.
The second reason is due to incest. Again, I feel it is partly that we must
give the victim of such a crime some semblance of control over her life.
Further, it is an evil crime that hurts not only the victim and their
family, but also harms the genetic diversity of the Human Race.
The third reason is probably the only one that will be accepted by
everyone. This is where the life of a mother-to-be is threatened by
that of her unborn child. She has to make the choice as to who
she wants to live: herself or her yet-to-be-born child.
Gun Control
There is no other issue so contentious among Americans
than that
of gun control (except maybe religion). It is crystal clear to me that
the Founding Fathers believed that every citizen had the right and the
duty to have their own weapon, whatever that weapon might be. A gun,
by itself, has no innate capacity for good or evil, no capacity to harm or
not. It is the choice of the person holding the weapon that decides this
issue. It is not the choice of the weapons manufacturer. To put it in a
familiar phrase: "Guns don't kill people, people kill people."
Of course, you should always practice safety first with any weapon.
Same Sex
Marriage
There is perhaps no issue more currently
contentious or devisive than this one.
This is understandable as it is, in part, a religious issue.
I have to come down against any law that legalizes same sex marriage.
Marriage is (primarily) a religious institution as well as a civil one, since
it is recognized
by the state. The state, however, cannot say that a civil union or domestic
partnership
is the same as a marriage, even though it may enjoy the same legal perks.
Marriage is between a man and a woman only. Anything else is a civil union
performed
by the state. It might even have some of the same forms as a religious
ceremony,
but it should not be mistaken for such. Any law that says same sex marriage
is legal,
thus forcing religions to perform such a ceremony, should be considered as
violating the
First Amendment. If we can't establish a state religion, then how does the
state justify
telling a religion what sort of ceremony it can
perform.
Veterans
I am a veteran myself and have seen the steady
erosion of Veterans
Rights and Benefits by Democratic congresses over the years. I have
been a victim of it myself. I lost my education benefits because I couldn't
afford to stay in school with the pittance I was authorised to receive
each month. After I was out of Service for 10 years, that benefit
disappeared. Unfortunately, I had need of it after I had been out for
over 20 years, yet I could not receive anything because it had expired.
Among other benefits, this is one that should be a lifetime for the
veteran, not one that disappers after an arbitrary amount of time.
My attention was also drawn recently to the plot by Representative
Henry Waxman, and others, to steal land from disabled veterans. This
is land in Los Angeles that was deeded to disabled veterans in
perpetuity
back in the 1888. Mr. Waxman and his henchpeople want to use
the land as a public park for the city of Brentwood. This must not occur!
Accordingly, it will be my pleasure to introduce, as one of my first
pieces of legislation after my election, a resolution to stop this
landgrab.
Immigration
I am constantly amazed by the continued deception
of Democrats in
insisting that there is nothing wrong with illegal aliens. This being said
while tons of illegal aliens roam our country. This said while American
cities are being turned into sanctuaries for illegal aliens. This said
while
brainwashed children believe the Democrat propaganda that it is some-
how okay to break the law, that there is somehow a right being broken
in refusing to grant citizen rights to illegal non-citizens.
I have been married for over 13 years to a wonderful Philippine
immigrant who came to the United States LEGALLY. She doesn't
believe any more than I do that there is somehow a magical legal
reason to accord illegal aliens the same status as those who are here
legitimately. She recognizes it as a crime for illegals to be here. She
went through the legal process and became a naturalised citizen and
expects others who come here to do the same thing that she did.
Taxes
Democrats have no choice but to raise taxes; it's
the only way that they
can afford to turn the United States into a welfare state. I have no
choice as but to oppose this. Taxing everything only leads to the
government having all the money and the average citizen having
little or no money to keep safe and call their own.
One of these taxes is the Inheritance Tax, sometimes called the Death
Tax. After a lifetime of work, a person dies and leaves behind a
moderate amount of money for his or her heirs. Under our current
laws, this money gets taxed twice - once by the state government
and once by the federal government. What is left is a mere pittance.
As your representative, I will fight to end this Tax on Death and oppose
any taxes that don't have a clearly defined purpose and time limit.
Economy
With our economy in its current recessive crisis,
we must do what we
can to stimulate it. To this end, I will support tax rebates for
individuals
and businesses as part of this effort. I will, with fellow Representatives,
see
what else can be done to alleviate our suffering in this financial
crisis.
Education
I have believed from the start that "No Child Left
Behind" was a bad
piece of legislation. It is not a merit-based program (and I believe that
passing on your own merit is a lot better than passing without what you
need to survive in our world). To this end, I do support the "A-PLUS
Act" which will begin a step in the merit-based direction.
Religion
A lot of people are confused by the separation of State and Church.
Here's what it really means, despite decades of ACLU-inspired court
decisions. The federal government will not establish a state-sponsored
religion. That's it. That's all separation of Church and State means.
Everyone is free to worship their own particular deity or deities (or not,
in some cases)
as they so wish. We have no right to stop them doing so.
Judicial
Legislation
There has been an inordinate
amount of judicial legislation coming down from
all levels of the bench lately. Let's set the record clear here. The founders
did not
want a judge legislating from the bench - this is clear from a reading of
The
Federalist Papers. A judge's sole duty is to decide the case before him
according
to the local, state or federal laws involved - it is not to make the law
based upon
how he or she feels about a particular issue or law. That way lies not the
rule of law,
but rather the rule of man; not justice by law, but injustice by man. Yet
this
is the very path that the Democrats would have you walk down.
Somewhere along the way in our history - some put the blame on Oliver Wendell
Holmes
and a book he wrote denouncing Common Law, while others put it Woodrow Wilson
and
his idea of a "living Constitution" - we forgot that our Declaration and
the Constitution
were ideas based upon Natural Law. This includes the idea that there are
rights
that exist by virtue of being human and part of our very nature. As a
Representative,
I will vote only to pass those judges who understand this and who also understand
it
is the Legislative Branch that sets policy and makes the laws that govern
the land.
Who understand that Judicial Independence does NOT equate to Judicial
Supremacy.
Who understand that rights do not devolve from a government, but that they
are inherent
in the people and that it is the people who decide the form of government,
not courts.
