The hot news is The Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation (REAF) presented a very special “One Night Only Cabaret” with members from the touring casts and crews of currently running smash hits, Young Frankenstein and Wicked, with special guest such as emcee, Bruce Vilanch of Broadway’s Hairspray on July 12 at Club Fugazi (home of Beach Blanket Babylon). The smash hit “Young Frankenstein” rampaged into San Francisco’s Golden Gate Theatre Wednesday night, but this monster musical doesn’t have quite sufficient sparks to astonish the audience.Not like Mel Brooks’ insanely well-liked Broadway blockbuster “The Producers,” the reanimation of his creepy cult-classic movie feels a small warmed over. It’s a shame, because the 1974 flick is one of the giddiest gems in his goofy canon.

But in spite of some wonderfully cheesy material and evenly fetching performances, “Young Frankenstein” lumbers along for much of its 2½-hour running time. It’s alive! Young Frankenstein may have died already on Broadway, but it’s been reanimated another time on tour. Mel Brooks’ monster musical mashes its way on Wednesday into San Francisco’s Golden Gate Theatre, where it will play during July 25. After recycling his 1968 flick “The Producers” into a runaway Broadway hit in 2001, Brooks has chose to place on the Ritz again, this time with a frothy musical version of his cult classic 1974 monster movie spoof “Young Frankenstein,” which starred Gene Wilder, Teri Garr and Madeline Kahn. There is no doubt that Young Frankenstein is well liked around the world. People are always excited to see Young Frankenstein live.

The Outrageously campy, tongue-in-cheek funniness is alive and kicking this summer in Mel Brooks’ musical, Young Frankenstein. Ahem, that would be pronounced “Frankensteen.” The musical is based on the hilarious 1974 comedy film, Young Frankenstein, which is a re-imagined spoof of the Mary Shelley classic. While the production uses fantastic lighting to increase dramatic moments, special effects are pretty much kept to a minimum. With a strong plot, fantastic composition and the comedic genius of Mel Brooks, Young Frankenstein lives and breathes on its own accord. This is an absolute must-see for any theater-goer. I’ve never heard of him doing it in solo shows, and I haven’t even seen it on his solo greatest hits compilations even though Paranoid and War Pigs are on all of them unfailingly. Also, any word on him touring and hitting the states in the near future? I’ve never seen him live and I’m dying to, I’ve seen footage and he’s freaking awesome live as well as in everything else.

It’s time for women to call the composition video shots
Except you’re something of a composition geek or work in the industry, most people don’t necessarily reckon about who’s directed the composition videos that are played on MTV. More often than not, they are not made by women.
